King - Urgent Need!!!

POSTED FEBRUARY 5, 2026:

King is a 6 year old pony who was mauled by two very aggressive and large dogs on Monday, February 2nd, 2026.

King’s immediate care is being given by a rescue in OR and when King is stable enough to transport, he will be coming to Blue Horse Rescue for continued care and rehabilitation.

Shared below is a description of King’s injuries and a link to pictures of the damage the dogs did. No need to really look at it but I did have share how extensive and serious this attack was on King. The pictures are graphic and heart-breaking.

King has multiple bites to his face, ear, throat, neck and left ribs/abdomen area. His legs received many bites with particular damage to his left hind and inner upper leg.

February 6, 2026:

The updates received this morning were positive and heading in the right direction. Little King is beginning to eat and drink again and his wounds have responded to care and antibiotic therapy. King is cooperating with his antibiotic therapy and is tolerating the injections well. He nickered to his caregiver this morning and is beginning to be more interactive and calm in his environment. Baby steps but very significant.

The main goal is to keep all systems working well and support King with everything his body needs to continue healing and remain free from infection. He is being closely watched for a signs of poor wound healing/infection and he will have a recheck with the vet in a few days. We are cautiously optimistic today that this little fighter will continue to heal well.

Again, when he is strong enough for transport he will be coming to Blue Horse Rescue for continued care and rehabilitation. We are looking forward to the time when he arrives.

Prayers, love and healing wishes to this sweet little pony, King. Keep up the fight, little guy!

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO FOLLOW KINGS PROGRESS, I WILL BE POSTING UPDATES AS THEY COME IN, SO PLEASE CHECK BACK HERE.

Thank you.

King on February 6, 2026.

Update for February 7, 2026: A positive report on King this morning! His caregiver says that he’s doing good and the wounds are continuing to look a little better today. Fingers crossed for continued progress.

Update for February 8, 2026: King is now beginning to bear weight on his left hind leg and is walking short distances to his feed, which he was not doing in the beginning. His appetite is good and so far he’s making a little bit of progress every day. King is trying his best and we hope he continues to heal without any complications.

Update for February 13, 2026: I talked with King’s caregiver yesterday and more promising news on King. His wound healing is continuing in the right direction with no signs of infection. King’s energy level and interaction with his caregiver, and minis through the fencing, is gradually increasing a little bit every day. He is nickering to his caregiver more frequently, he’s calling to his mini friends, his appetite is good, mobility is slowly improving and his manure is good.

A vet visit is being scheduled for a re-evaluation and to check his hind end for any damage other than the bites, and to make changes to his care if needed.

King’s hoof care has been addressed, but at this time, because of his discomfort, we are putting it on a hold for a bit. Hopefully we will be able to get his hoofs trimmed soon!

At some point King will be getting vaccines and some blood drawn (Coggins) so he can start his journey to California. We don’t know when this will be as it depends on when King is strong enough to make the trip and also the weather!

Update Received on February 20th, 2026: The latest news on King is that he has made great strides in healing from his injuries! No infection and his hind end is more comfortable, and even stable enough for him to be out with a friend. This little guy is beginning to enjoy life again!

Now we just have to keep our fingers crossed that his healing continues and give him the time he needs to build up energy and strength to make the long trip to BHR. And, hope for a change in the weather! Keep the healing thoughts and wishes coming - they seem to be working!

Let’s Send King Some Positive Healing Energy & Thoughts!

February 20th at 6 pm: Well, here he is! Pretty adorable, don’t you think? So good to see his personality starting to come through as his body heals. King is making steady progress and is described by Katy as being very curious and friendly! She was able to get these pics from the other side of the fence, and King actually left his hay to come check her out and say hi through the fence. King is walking good with no signs of lameness at a walk, which is great news! He’s looking so much better!

Kudos to Katy for the pics, and to King’s amazing caregiver who has worked so hard to help him heal! A big thank you to you both!

More updates will be posted, so please check back on King’s progress. And, if you can, please share a link to this page and help spread King’s story. Thanks so much!
