King

King is an 8 year old gelding who came to Blue Horse Rescue from Oregon. Not only is King a very pretty little pony, but he also has a very kind and sweet personality with a whole lot of try! He is incredibly smart and a fast learner. King is extremely curious and watches everything going on around him and just has to check it all out. A very brave little guy!

At the moment King is adjusting well to his new environment and the daily routine. We are playing with him and getting him used to haltering, leading and human touch. Lots of grooming going on. He’s a bit leery of what humans are all about so we’re taking it slowly and he is learning fast. We’ll keep it on King’s time line and learn more about him as he develops confidence and shares more of his personality with us.

When King arrived at BHR on March 29, 2026 he had just successfully recovered from a dog attack which left him with multiple wounds. (He was seen by our vet for an initial wellness exam and after two weeks in quarantine, he was declared healthy.)

Back Story: King was originally pulled from a livestock auction by a rescue in Oregon as a four year old. He was an intact male with one undescended testicle, (cryptorchid). King was gelded and the undescended testicle was removed.

While our ultimate goal is to find a great home for King, from what we have learned about him so far, he will be more suitable for turnout with a full size gelding rather than minis or ponies. His stallion like behavior is pretty extreme when turned out with ponies and miniature horses.

Adoption Status: While our goal is always to find a wonderful home for our horses, our initial assessment is that King does have some special requirements for successful rehoming and he will need a very special family. King is best suited for:

  • a home with a family who have prior horse knowledge and are skilled in ground work

  • a home where pasture turnout with a full size gelding is available. (This was successful in the past.)

  • a home where King will not be used as a riding horse.

We look forward to sharing more about King as our relationship with him develops and will keep you updated thru our Barn Blog.
