If you are a morning person and love the outdoors and working around animals in all weather, this is the spot for you! And believe me, some people love it! The responsibilities for early morning barn chores start the day with cleaning the ‘barn’ area and prepping the stalls for use during the day and into the night hours. Your hard work on this team will be helping to provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment for our rescue horses where they can heal from trauma, injury, or illness before they move on to happy homes. Keeping our horses healthy, safe, and content while they are at BHR is our #1 priority and team effort!
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Carry your own medical insurance.
Be able to lift 25 lbs. safely.
Be a team player.
Be willing to learn.
Excellent communication skills.
Understand that caring for horses and the land is challenging work.
Acknowledge that we do not offer riding opportunities.
Must have love & compassion for horses and animals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Remove stale shavings and replace with fresh shavings in stalls and paddock area.
Sweep/blow debris from outdoor mats, paddock area and barn aisle.
Clean out and/or top troughs in stalls and paddocks with fresh water.
Fill nibble nets with pre-weighed hay for evening meal.
Groom ponies.
Feed lunch time hay rations.
Integrate horsemanship skills into interactions with ponies.
Correct use of equipment for the job.
Communicate your observations to volunteers following you, even if nothing different happened.
Documentation.
TRAINING:
Orientation to the facility and procedures will be provided.
Mentorship will be provided by a knowledgeable volunteer working alongside you.
You will be taught barn and horse safety to keep both you and the horses safe.
