Dental and Vaccine Day at BHR

All of our ponies and LuLu were great for their wellness checks, dentals and vaccines. Mouse even tolerated his sheath cleaning relatively well! Charlie, our goat, on the other hand, had quite an opinion but surprised us all with a huge amount of restraint. This in itself was a huge gift since he weighs about 200 lbs and is really powerful. Everyone recovered nicely and we can cross this off our to-do list until next year.

A big thank you to VIP Equine, Santa Rosa, CA! They are so knowledgeable, compassionate and truly love the horses. Feel good knowing our horses are getting such great veterinary care.

A Musical Moment with the Little Ones

A big thank you to Indy and Diana! We spent a lovely afternoon hanging out with the horses and enjoying the land. It was so peaceful, relaxing and new friends were made. The horses were fascinated by Indy’s flute music and I think would welcome the experience again. Thank you so much for the amazing energy you brought to us all. A very special time. Hope to see you soon!

I Thought I was a Big Horse!

LuLu, our quarter horse mare, loves to stand over the scrub brush to scratch her belly and keep the flies away, and little Belle must have thought this was a great idea. But instead, it turned out to be Belle’s moment of truth and we all know reality can bite sometimes.

With a big heart, a big personality and a big attitude (when needed), it’s not surprising that Belle thought she was a big horse. I’m only guessing that as she casually walked away, she was hoping that this would be one of her best kept secrets!

Im Going Home!

One very happy little mini is home again after a 4 day stay in ICU. Mouse started showing classic signs of colic over Labor Day weekend and was medically managed for an impaction colic at UC Davis. He did great and with lots of IV fluids and enteral feeding, Mouse recovered from this scary diagnosis. Luckily he showed no signs of enteroliths or sand in his belly. Our goal is for a full recovery and getting his life back to normal over the next week. We are so happy to have him home again!

Back in the Human World

Sunny looks and calls to her buddy who has been momentarily taken away for his dental, hoof trim and vaccines. Little does she know that her turn is coming up very soon. I’m so happy to see her looking and doing so well. :)

Bye-Bye Bamboo!

A huge thank you to our amazing crew who really put their all into tackling this huge project! They can only be described as incredible and we are so appreciative, and feel a whole lot safer with the bamboo gone! BHR has been very focused on minimizing our fire risk as much as possible and the bamboo backing on to the neighborhood was a major concern - we were all sighing with relief at the end of the day. Great job guys!
