Round Pen Day!
Very exciting day for Blue Horse Rescue - our round pen is going up again and pony training will begin! This is a day we have been looking forward to for a long time; we’ve really missed playing with the ponies. Now we can begin building a pedestal, teeter-totter, bridge and all the other fun stuff to play on! A huge thank you goes out to D’Arcy’s amazing family who gave up a day of their vacation to come up to the rescue and help out - thank you from our hearts - both human and horse!
Things to Do on a Very Hot Night
Mouse’s ‘How-To Get Thru a Very Hot Summer Night’ Video …
empty your water bucket at the far end of the run
slowly roll your bucket up the run to your stall making sure to bang it into the panels as many times as possible - this will buy you points
carefully inspect the bucket for future game potential
ignore the bucket and have a quick snack
once re-energized commence to rolling the bucket around the stall, being sure to bang it into the stall walls as many times as possible for additional points
repeat this technique at regular intervals
you have won the game when the human shows up and removes the bucket from your stall
Don’t worry about me going thirsty. There’s another bucket inside my stall and it’s full of fresh, clean water!

We’re very happy and excited to welcome Magic to our new rescue location in Crockett, CA! We look forward to working and playing with him and helping him on his journey to life with lots of space to play and hang out with his new herd. Welcome, Magic!
July 4th at Blue Horse Rescue
Happy 4th of July everyone - be safe!
So, while I spent the last year manifesting that everyone surrounding us would play nice and not set off fire works, you see how well that worked for me, the horses have all been quietly adjusting to life in a heavily urbanized area where police sirens, fire trucks, dirt bikes, loud cars, helicopters, trains and planes are the normal sounds. Not to mention extremely heavy winds throughout the year. But never would I have thought that they would all be calm and sensible with the July 4 fireworks going on. I can only think that as it built up the week before hand they gradually adjusted to it. I wish I had a secrete plan to share, but I don’t. Somehow it just worked out and all were sensible and safe. Pretty amazing! But, … just to be on the safe side I’ve already began manifesting a quiet July 4th in 2023. I’ll let you know how that goes!
Visiting with Sunny
Sunny has been doing a great job during her time with Hilary at Wild Heart Restart! She has become calmer, definitely more focused, and her willingness to bond and trust Hilary will warm your heart. This little mare has so much try in her and with the right person will be an amazing partner. Many thanks to Hilary for the incredible gift she is giving Sunny.
Practice, Practice, Practice!
We’re busy getting the horses ready and confident to make it through fire season and any other event that requires evacuating the rescue. Luckily our count is low right now and everyone will fit in the trailer for one haul out if needed. Everything we may need for a 7 day evacuation is loaded and ready to go along with grains and a bale of hay. Hopefully it won’t be needed but we will be as ready as possible. Many thanks to the guys that are available 24/7 to help load up and get us on the road to safety.

Horses and Ponies Meet our Amazing Fire Fighters
Today was a great day - our local fire fighters came to Blue Horse Rescue to meet us all and offer advice on where to place our fire breaks and amp up our safety in the event of a fire. Very informative and what a relief knowing that they can make it up the steep gravel hill without any problems. We still have a lot of work ahead of us and will be putting in some more breaks and continuing to clean up the dead and dry debris from the property. It’s been a long time since the land has been cared for so it will be a big job spread out over the next few years but, every year we will all be safer. It was also great to see the big smiles on the faces of the fire fighters when they met the horses and ponies. Mouse was extremely interested in all the new gear and couldn’t resist showing his appreciation by mouthing everything. Sometimes just a little bit too enthusiastically! He was especially impressed with all the many pockets and the boots. Mouse definitely supports our fire fighters in his own little way!
Thanks so much for all you do to keep us safe throughout the year and during our ever expanding fire season! You guys are amazing!

Sunny Makes the Big Move
Today was a big day for Sunny - she left her friends and person behind and loaded up and headed to her temporary new digs to start two months of training. I’m told she loaded better than expected but was understandably fussy once she realized her herd was staying behind. She’s doing nicely at her new place and the updates so far have all been good. Excited to see what the future holds for sweet Sunny. A big thank you to Hilary for the safe and amazing care she is providing for Sunny. Hilary’s communication, updates and photos as Sunny makes this transition to her new life have been much appreciated and definitely took away the stress of this little ones big move - thank you! We look forward to hearing even more and also to or first visit!
Meeting with Sunny Again!
In March 2022, Sunny came back to Blue Horse Rescue. Seeing this little one again, all grown up and so very beautiful was an amazing experience. We will continue on Sunny’s Journey in the world of humans and find her a home to call her own.
Sunny also met with wild horse trainer, Hilary Merrill who has agreed to evaluate Sunny and possible do some training with her to increase her confidence and willingness to trust and partner with a human. Looking forward to getting some more skills on board for this little one.
Yay! Sunny will be going into training with Hilary at the Wild Heart Restart Ranch!
Our Amazing Grace is Adopted!
Late in September 2019, Grace was found roaming. Her owners were nowhere to be found and many people stepped up to do the best for her. She did however, eventually land in a shelter with a limited amount of days before she would be euthanized. Our amazing foster mom Christina called her to our attention and between the two of us we were able to step up and rescue Grace at the very last moment on a Friday afternoon, just hours before her time ran out. We were never more thankful than when Grace was turned over to us at the last possible moment.
Christina has been fostering Grace for the past two years and pretty much fell in love with this kind senior mare. Christina has always provided the best of care for our senior horses. She has opened her home and heart to them all and has been with them when we have had to make the most heart felt decision of all. With all this said, I could not be happier to have Christina adopt Grace and give her a forever home. I know that she will always do what’s best for Grace. This is a perfect match and I’m very happy for them both. Grace will be loved and cared for and has definitely found a family that truly loves her. Thank you Christina for giving Grace a family. There are no words for the thank you that you deserve.
