Sunny is a 12 year old Paiute pony mare. Sunny’s introduction to the human world had a very rough start. As a foal, Sunny and her herd were removed from their home and transported to the Feedlot. Sunny was rescued by Pregnant Mare Rescue and then came to Blue Horse Rescue a year later. After a settling in time we began to prepare Sunny for life in the human world. Her early foundation was Parelli Level One groundwork. Sunny learned quickly and when the time was right Sunny was adopted by a wonderful woman and had a great home for seven years.

Sunny came back to Blue Horse Rescue in March 2022 and spent three months in training with Hilary Merrill for a restart. Sunny made great progress and formed an amazing bond with Hilary.

During this time we learned a lot about Sunny which gives us so much more insight regarding the best home and person for her. She’s a special mare needing a very special person.

Sunny is definitely an alpha mare who will require a skilled and patient leader who can provide her with the autonomy she needs to become a confident and safe partner. Sunny is extremely smart and thrives when she has a meaningful human interaction. Sunny bonds close with a leader whose skills she trusts will keep her safe. Sunny is definitely not a novice’s horse and she needs a person with strong, kind leadership skills and a knowledge of natural horsemanship. There’s still a lot of wild horse in this little one and she does tend to revert back to her innate ways. She will definitely be an ongoing challenge to the right person and keep you on your toes!

Unfortunately due to an old stifle injury, Sunny is not a riding horse but would make a great liberty pony for someone who enjoys playing and interacting on the ground.

Sunny is up to date on vaccines and had her teeth floated in May 2022.
